INTERVIEWS
OLAF VAN DER SPEK

By: Cabal, 10th June 2000

Cabal: What was the first program you created to decode / edit a C&C game?
Olaf:
Hmm, I'll have to dig in my Turbo Pascal directory to find that one. I created some small programs myself for display SHP files and that grew to almost a complete map viewer. Then I started working with Visual C++ and created XCC Audio Player, the first program to be released to the public (IIRC).

Cabal: Which C&C game was easiest to decode?
Olaf:
I must admit that I haven't decoded very much myself. But I think the original, C&C: TD was the easiest.

Cabal: Do you have any new programs in development at the moment or are you concentrating on updating existing versions?
Olaf:
At the moment there are no new utilities under development for C&C.

Cabal: Will you attempt to decode RA2 / Renegade?
Olaf:
Probably, yes.

Cabal: What does "XCC" stand for?
Olaf:
Extended Command & Conquer. The goal is to create my own RTS sometime, which could be an advanced version of C&C, if possible.

Cabal: What is your favourite feature from one of your programs?
Olaf:
The AV capabilities of XCC AV Player. I remember that at the time I wrote them there was no good program that worked under Windows which could directly play those files from a MIX.

Cabal: If you could be any character from any C&C game who would it be and why?
Olaf:
I think that would be the commando of TD, because I find him very cool.
